Beach photos

Apologies to those of you who have already seen some of these on my various social media accounts. This is a more complete collection, including those I took on the DSLR. I didn't have much luck with the bigger camera while I was gone--it seems I need to put some more work into learning to use the camera properly. However, I did get a few bits and pieces and the stuff I took with my phone turned out very well.
Re the photo above, Hyams Beach is pet friendly within certain hours and within certain restrictions.

Even though I didn't have much success with the DSLR, Sahaquiel did okay. He was very patient with following me around and holding on to whatever I handed him. When I handed him the big camera, he thought he'd have a go himself. I think it turned out rather well.

In return, I got one of him standing in sand so white it made his fair Scottish skin look brown.

We were down at Hyams beach which, according to Australian Geographic (thanks,

There's a naval base nearby and lots of water traffic around.

We're drawing closer to the equinox, so I was up at sunrise most mornings, though I only ventured out once with the camera.

I took plenty of bird photos, including about a million photos of kookaburras. Unfortunately, most of the latter didn't turn out.

I ended up with a series of photos of tracks in the sand.

But my favourite thing to photograph at the beach are the shells. Hyams didn't have much on that front, but another nearby beach yielded a couple of nice ones.

I'm looking forward to going back.

Date: 2018-03-02 10:52 am (UTC)Beautiful photos. And the kookaburra is beautiful (and now makes me think of the song we used to sing as children...).
Wow!

Date: 2018-03-02 06:13 pm (UTC)Why do the kookaburras like the beach so much? Do they eat saltwater fish, or are they after something else?

Was the song about the kookaburra sitting in the old gum tree?

Date: 2018-03-03 11:17 pm (UTC)We concluded the centipede-looking tracks were from a lizard, though its maker was long gone by the time we got there.
It's not the beach attracting the kookaburra. There was forest all the way up to the dunes and the house we were staying at was in the middle of that. There was a creek next to the house, so the kookaburras might have been fishing (they were definitely hunting something). However, they're also quite fond of lizards and snakes and other bits and pieces.

Date: 2018-03-08 06:08 am (UTC)I don't know why, but there's something utterly adorable about seagulls that are still shifting from the young brown plumage to their adult silver-grey.
Re Sahaquiel's legs: Yeah, those are definitely Celtic-hairy legs. Mine look pretty similar, in fact. ;)
