calissa: Macro of a jonquil (Spring)

Happy Equinox to those that celebrate it!

I have been curled up tight lately, focussed on the deadline for Children of the Crown Wars. The rest of the world has been blocked out and I wake up with my jaw clenched, my shoulders up around my ears. I feel like I haven't seen my sweetheart in weeks, even though we live in the same house and do, in fact, see a lot of each other.

Today has been about unfurling a little, like the new leaves sprouting on the trees everywhere I look. I switched off my alarm and let myself sleep in this morning--as best as I was able to, since the more light there is the less I sleep. I have always been more of a morning person anyway.

The buds on my jasmine vine are not yet ready to flower, but in honour of the occasion I put some jasmine essential oil into a burner and made myself some jasmine tea to kick off the day. The tea was too strong, a little overbrewed and left me feeling a bit spacey; jasmine requires more mindfulness than I gave it.

Today is one of those crystal blue days without a cloud in sight. A walk with the dogs helped clear away any fuzziness and put me back in touch both with my body and with the landscape. There is lots flowering at the moment--capeweed, crabapple, creeping speedwell, dandelion, diosma, false sarsaparilla, grevillea (of many, many kinds), hebe, iris, leucadendron, magnolia, onion grass, Patterson’s Curse, periwinkle, pig’s face, protea, wild sorrel and white clover. I cut some freesias for my study when I got home.

Due to all the rain we've had lately, the ditches along the fire trail are running with water. The frogs were in full chorus and I spied several clumps of frogspawn. I very much hope that the water doesn't dry up before they hatch and grow properly.

As the afternoon has worn on, I have felt the tension creeping back into me. The brief respite has been nice, but I know I'm not going to be able to properly relax until I finish this damn story. I'll be back to it tonight.
