I confess that I've not done much since I wrote my post on place. Most of it comes down to time and breaking through the mantra that I don't have enough of it. It would help if I didn't overschedule myself. Busy does not equal important; time to rest and recharge (and get outside) is vital to my wellbeing.

Having said that, it's funny how things work sometimes. Despite my complaining that I don't have enough time to get outside and really look at things, I was forced to take time to do just that on Thursday. I managed to lock myself out of the house in the rain. Fortunately, I had an umbrella and enough change to catch the bus to my mum's, where there is a spare key. However, the wait for the bus was quite a lot longer than I was expecting. This left me with plenty of time to take in the scenery.

The bus stop was a bit of a way up the side of the hill and afforded a lovely view of the valley and the hills on the other side. The cloud cover was deep enough to create an early twilight further softened by the mist rising from the rain. I think it would have been very pleasant indeed, if it hadn't been so bloody freezing. There was definitely a kind of peace to it, though, and reaffirmed the importance of taking time just to take in the scenery and be where I am. I should definitely disconnect from technology more often.

Shortly after locking myself out, I came across this post on No Unsacred Space (which is definitely becoming one of my favourite blogs to read). I rather like the idea of a phenology journal and I think it was what I was aiming at with my photography idea. I also like the idea of incorporating some human activity into it, thus reaffirming our place in the natural world. At any rate, it's something to experiment with.

Here's hoping that connecting with place doesn't take locking myself out of the house again.
