Merry Midsummer
Dec. 23rd, 2015 07:15 pm
A merry belated Midsummer to everyone celebrating it. And a merry Yule to all my friends in the Northern Hemisphere.
I took yesterday off to mark the occasion and spent some time cooking myself pancakes and contemplating the looming spectre of 2016.
The weather here has been all over the place. We had 37 Celsius over the weekend (with a minimum of 20 in between). However, the last two days have been much cooler and grey, with some rain. My vegetable garden is lapping it up.

Date: 2015-12-23 09:55 am (UTC)Oh, I wish there was a good, long rain here any time soon.
But no, we're pretty much in the middle of First Summer/Birak, and in 3-4 weeks we'll get started on High Summer/Bunuru.
Ugh!
I long for the cool/cold and wet/windy days of High Winter/Makuru already.

Date: 2015-12-27 09:02 pm (UTC)I'm still working out if the D'harawal Calendar is a good fit for this area, considering we are further south, less coastal and more alpine. However, according to that reckoning, we are just about to move out of warm and wet Parra'dowee and into hot and dry Burran, so that may be the last rain we see for a little while.

Date: 2015-12-27 09:06 pm (UTC)It's worrisome to hear how out-of-whack the weather is everywhere at the moment. I'm glad you got some rain, though, since it sounds like it was much needed.

Also, that is a stunning photo and is making me happy to look at my reading page, so thank you for that.

Date: 2015-12-27 09:10 pm (UTC)Ah, thank you! It took a few shots for me to capture because there was a bit of a breeze making things challenging. This season has always been blue and gold for me and the picture captures why.

Date: 2015-12-24 06:51 am (UTC)The weather here has been all over the place but in a different way. We've had two days of 40, but Christmas itself will be 29, which is *very* unusual here. Usually in Perth, Christmas week is like...35-40 every day. Climate change is strange!

Date: 2015-12-27 09:12 pm (UTC)The photo does capture the season nicely, doesn't it? As I said above, Midsummer has always been blue and gold to me, with the endless sky and the dry grass.
Climate change is definitely strange. We don't get the sustained heat quite as much as you do. But when I got up this morning, it was only 9 degrees! I'm finding it a bit too chilly.
