National Bonsai and Penjing Collection

A couple of weeks ago, I met some friends out at the National Arboretum. I didn't take many photos, mostly because it's winter and many of the trees are deciduous. However, the grounds also harbour the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection. Despite (or perhaps because of) the grey weather, it was crowded, so I only managed to snag a couple of photos.





The grevillea below was just one of a number of native species that had been grown as bonsai. The paperbark worked particularly well and in some cases had been grown as tiny forests. I will definitely have to go back soon.

That last one is such a pretty tree...is it supposed to be blooming like that? I would like to own a bonsai, though given my prior attempts at ruthlessness against plants I would almost certainly end up with a pet bush.

I believe it is supposed to be blooming, though mine hasn't started yet (admittedly they're quite different types of grevillea).

I also would like to own a bonsai, but I find them difficult to care for. I never get watering right.
