I hope you won't be discouraged. Comparisons can be so unhelpful, since there's always someone who reads more (my goodness, I shudder to think what my step-mum's number would be if she actually troubled herself to keep count. She puts me to shame.)
I've heard Connie Willis's Doomsday Book is excellent, if a little darker than To Say Nothing of the Dog. I shall have to check it out.

And I bought all the Courtney Milan books after some serious nonsense started up between her and the Romance Writers of America. It seemed like the best way to show my support.
