Mt TBR rules

Since it's March already, I thought I should finally get around to posting my Mt TBR rules.

Valid reasons for adding to Mt TBR
1. Said book continues a series I've been following.
2. Said book was a gift.
3. Said book is an ARC provided by a publisher or author (unlikely at this stage).

Invalid reasons for adding to Mt TBR
1. I've heard so many good things about this!
2. I like this author and want all their books!
3. I know or have met the author.
4. This is on my wish list and I just stumbled across it now!
5. Ooh, cheap book!
6. I haven't bought a book in a while and I’m starting to get the shakes.
7. "Ooo... this looks interesting, can I borrow this?"

Additional rules
Books I am interested in must go on my wish list (this particularly relates to invalid reasons 1, 2, 3 & 7).
Once a quarter, I am permitted to buy or borrow books. I must not buy or borrow more than three books and these new acquisitions must not take Mt TBR above its starting total for the year (146 books). These new acquisitions must be selected from my wish list.

I know or have met the author.

I need to work on this one. I don't have all the books by all the authors I know personally, but I do have a tendency to feel I should buy their books to show support, regardless of how big my reading pile is or what my financial situation is. I need to remind myself of the myriad other ways to support my fellow authors!

I have problems with the rest of those, too, especially. . .all of them, actually. I probably should stick to these or similar rules, myself.

Feel free to use them or adapt them. I've borrowed a number of these from other sources.

Perhaps you could mention on your blog some of the authors you know and what they have written. It might be a good way of supporting them... and making my wish list even longer :D
