I saw this over on [personal profile] untonuggan's journal and thought I would give it a try.

What are you doing/thinking/wondering/making/reading/etc. that you don't normally post about?

Doing: The bulk of editing on my anthology finished up at the beginning of the week. Ever since then, I have been rattling around at a bit of a loose end. I've been catching up on my blog reading and reading more generally. I've been taking photos, avoiding housework and staring out the window. I managed to spend some time with friends and family.

Watching: Recently, I've been watching a lot of this YouTube channel. It shows recorded sessions of RPGs. Oddly enough, although I play D&D, I steer clear of the D&D streams but have been adoring the R&D stream--the premise of which is that every 4-8 weeks the group has a new guest and plays a new RPG system. They are currently making their way through a system called Dungeon World. The GM is brilliant and also runs the Dark Heresy stream.

Thinking: A lot of friends have been going through tough times lately--some really hard stuff. While I appreciate catching up on what is going on with them, when it starts being presented in a "who has the worst story" competitive format I find it invalidating and prevents, instead of facilitates, connection. I am so glad that I haven't come across this tendency here on DW--you guys are awesome.

Reading: I pretty much spent all of yesterday finishing off The Lies of Locke Lamora which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm taking a brief break to digest that and to allow my critical brain to kick into gear (I may write a review later). Next on my list is a book on the geological history of the local area. I've been finding it good to alternate between fiction and non-fiction.

Wondering: Even though I have only just finished editing the Gold Coast anthology and am feeling rather exhausted, I already find myself wondering what I should tackle next. This year I promised myself that I would do some serious work on Wolfwinter. But there is also my AODA studies to wrap up, some short story markets I am tempted by, a drabble challenge from a friend and a desire to make some space for poetry. I suspect this indecision is good for me, as it will make sure I get some proper rest.

Making: A couple of weeks ago, I dragged out a cross stitch I had started years ago and managed to make a little bit of progress on it. It's a big and complicated project, so I'm not very far along with it. Also, craft tends to be at the very bottom of my list of priorities so I imagine this phase won't last long.

Glad to hear your big editing project is about wrapped up; that must be a load off. Hopefully you'll have time for at least a little break before you plunge into your next project, but it sounds like a lot of neat things are on your potential menu!

Good to know your editing is near the end. Has it been bigger than similar jobs you have had in the past?

(also may steal meme)

The comment on pity contests reminded me of Danger And Dread by Brown Bird (ignore the stereotypical start - Brown Bird always come at an angle to such things and have a knack for sketching remarkably healthy-sounding relationships compared to most modern balladeers) - "there's always someone being slaughtered by/a bigger stack of splinters somewhere." Have you poked at Corvus yet?
