calissa: A black and white photo of a large, dark teapot and a small Chinese teacup with a fish painted on the side (Tea)

Back in October, Sahaquiel was kind enough to give me a subscription to Monstrositea for my birthday. Every month the company sends me samples of four different teas to try, some sourced from other tea companies and some sourced directly from the producers. I've been having almost as much fun photographing the samples as drinking them.

Not technically a tea at all but something more like sugar flavoured with citric acid. Far too sweet for me, though it made a nice cordial back when summer was actually warm.

The photo doesn't do justice to how large the leaves actually ended up--a little went a long way. This was wonderfully subtle tea that tasted to me more like a white tea than an oolong.

The Chuan Hong tea required covering while it brewed, so I don't have a shot of the colour. I found it a bit of a deceptive tea because it brewed up surprisingly mild but walloped me with the caffeine. It held up nicely to multiple brewings.

I'm partial to flavoured blacks, so it's probably not surprising that this was my favourite of the batch. Not too strong on the mint and the citrus tones went nicely with the kumquat marmalade on my toast.

Oooh. The last two in particular sound like they would be lovely.
